Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)
Search Engine Optimisation or SEO as some people call it is definitely the new buzz word going around. But what exactly is it? What does it entail? And, how do you achieve results.
In short SEO is the process of making your website more visible on the web.
This is achieved by carrying out constant work on your website to keep the information you display up to date and as relevant as possible. There are some key factors in improving your search engine rankings, these include: Authority (PageRank), Anchor Text (Links) and Content (Information on your Website).
In the world of SEO less is definitely not more. Many people think that just getting a small simple website up and running with tit-bits of information is all that is required to get people streaming in to business’s doors.
Think about it… there are millions if not billions of websites up and running on the internet even as you read this. So for someone to find yours is tougher than finding that needle in that haystack we all love searching through.
So what do the search engines do? They use software that goes through your website to see if the information is relevant to your business, how much information there is and how often information is added and updated on the website. Websites that meet these criteria amongst others are ranked a lot higher up the search ranking on, leading to being displayed on the first pages of certain search results.
SEO is a repetitive process and not a once off thing. The key it to iterate, iterate, iterate. The moment you stop the process you start sliding back down the results pages again.
Static websites are a thing of the past; they are like creating flyers and business cards and then chucking them in your draw never to be seen again.
